~Wait a minute~
When you say Star Wars Trilogy, we talking classic or new breed? Cause if it's original recipe Star Wars, then that's my vote, otherwise it's a tie between Back to the Future and Lord of the Rings!
From my black throne I will lash together a machine of bone & blood, fueled by my hatred for you this fear machine will bore a hole between this world and that one.

I want to say Star Wars (and I'm sure we're talking original recipe here), but I think that the LotR trilogy is a more solid and consistant set of films. That's helped, of course, by the fact that they were filmed back to back. That said, it's still a fantastic series, and I think probably the most successful adaptation ever filmed.

Oh, and the fact that you left out the Matrix trilogy is criminal. I don't care what anyone says, Matrix Reloaded is the best film in the series, and Revolutions is nearly tied with the original film for second place. I adore the Matrix movies in a way that probably isn't healthy.

I've never ever seen any of the Matrix movies, further adding to my criminal record. So that is why I didn't mention them.

I merely listed some of my favorite trilogies.

LOTR is without a doubt one of the best movie trilogies around imo, but I'm partial towards the original Star Wars trilogy so I had to go with that.

Oh. My. God.

Tim, what planet are you living on that you missed the Matrix films AND The X-Files?! Correct this mistake post haste. Go get the Matrix films on HD-DVD, watch them all in order, and then get back to me when your head is done exploding at all the high def awesomeness.

Yes Tim you need to see the Matrix trilogy. It is very good. Not only visually but also story wise.

Yeah, the story really is amazing. What they give you in the first film is fairly easy to get, though there are hidden depths for those who want to look deeper. But, with the second film they blow the story wide open, and you really have to have your thinking cap on to follow it. I firmly believe that most of the people who didn't like the sequels did so because they didn't really understand what the story was. That isn't a slight, either, as it's pretty heady stuff.

I agree with you completly. I love the movies and I thought people were way to hard on the sequels. I like watching movies and tv shows that make me think rather than watching to see who is going to win on Survivor. :-)

If you really want to understand just what all the W. Bros. were saying in the Matrix films, then you need to watch a documentary included in the collected sets called "The Philosphy Of The matrix." Dear lord, it is DEEP. They have philosophers and religious scholars from all over the world talking about the concepts that went into the movies, and I thought it was staggering. So much deeper than most people realize.

I officially placed my vote for Star Wars just now, but I wanted to state a couple of things very quickly...

1) Lord of the Rings are my favorite books of all time. Every year, I re-read the trilogy as well as ALL of the other Tolkien works and the "Letters to Tolkien" collection. The film adaptation was a masterpiece of cinema and truly did deserve it's spot as #50 of AFI's new top 100 movies list. I had to fight my inner fanboy to not vote this movie trilogy as #1.

2) Back to the Future holds a special place in moviedome for myself. The way BTTF brilliantly worked the events of the first movie into the second and set up the third was inspirational. To this day, I can watch any of the films any time anywhere.

3) Star Wars;
In a nutshell what Lucas did with Star Wars was re-introduce the myth style of story telling to a whole generation of people. The tall of a chosen one, meant to save the world (or in this case Universe), mentored by a old wizard, taking up a magic sword, and defeating the evilest man in the world (or again Universe) is VERY high-fantasy. Outside of places like Tolkien, Goodkind, and Robert Jordan books, this genre was lost on the public at large. Lucas brought it to the forefront. Han Solo and his little vest in the Cantina is SUPPOSED to remind you of the western genre. The Tie Fighter battles are re-imaginings of the classic WWI and WWII dogfights. Lucas manages to show the world that anything is possible with a little creativity and imagination.

4) Matrix was a brilliant piece of film. Bullet-time was such a brilliant action effect to perfect. It brought the art of wire-fu to such fantastic heights. The mythos is so perfectly blended within the action itself that it can appease the intellectuals as easily as the action movie buffs with it's appeal.

That will be all.

For now...

My choice: LotR

Postby BobC on Sun Sep 21, 2008 11:27 pm

I voted for the "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, not only because it was epic storytelling, but the scope of it was breathtaking. Every time I watch it, I am blown away by the quality of the movie-making, and the attention to detail!

The original "Star Wars" trilogy is a close second, and I have to admit, I've watched it more than any other movie series. Also astonishing in scope, it was solely responsible for bringing Sci-Fi movie-making to the next level, and bringing in fans all over the globe.

I have to go with Star Wars (the 3 original non-overly CGed ones).
I will forever have a soft spot for those. Goes back to my dad inexpliciably taking the fam to see Empire Strikes Back opening day (when it came out the first time). Damn I'm seriously dating myself... Either way as much as I LOVE LotR and the hotty factor in LotR is much higher...wait can I change my vote ? :)
